With cutting-edge heat technology and multi-tasking functionality, the high end Base Layer Top acts as both a heated garment and a thermal layer. Designed in soft touch, breathable fabric with built-in stretch for absolute comfort, the superb performance top keeps perfect pace with drops in temperature.
Our Base Layers cleverly and unobtrusively integrate state-of-the-art TriZone Heat Technology, enabling you to generate the level of warmth you want at the touch of a button. All of our heat elements are purpose-developed utilising flexible carbon fibres, which allows garments to be compressed and folded without compromising technical integrity.

Take Care of Me
We had a Christmas trip Canada planned and the question of what presents to buy, given limited luggage, came up. We also have a full ski trip booked for March, also in Canada. Then we came across the BlazeWear range. This seemed like a great option, providing Xmas presents for the three of us and a reassurance in case things got too cold while we were away.
We debated whether the gilet or base layer was the better option, finally settling on the base layer on the rationale that the heat is delivered closer to the skin and retained by any top layers. The slightly lower price, given that web were ordering three, certainly helped.
They arrived the day after online ordering, attractively packaged.
First impressions were good. Concerns that the material might not be that comfortable were rapidly allayed; the garments are very smooth and pleasant to wear directly against the skin. The heater elements are not noticeable in use. The fit is good, with plenty of stretch in the fabric. They are quite long in both body and arms, which is a good thing as it allows for good interlayering with lower body garments and gloves.
The battery is surprisingly compact given its capacity. It's rated at 2,200mAh at 7.4V, so gives about 16Watt hours. The battery is placed into a small hip pocket and isn't really noticeable in use. Recharge time is several hours.
Operation is simple (though the provided instructions need some work, as they attempt to cover multiple products and end up being a tad confused and unclear):
- press the sleeve button for a count of three to fire up, straight into max heat (red);you feel this in a couple of seconds
- press once for minimum warmth (green)
- press again for medium (amber). Cycle as required.
- Press and hold to turn off.
So, to use...
Canada is cold. Very cold. Over Christmas all ten of the ten coldest cities in the world were in Canada. We drove up to Mont Tremblant from Ottawa to grab a couple of days skiing. It hit -33C on the drive. On the slopes it was a consistent -25C. Plus wind-chill. The Canadian authorities issued extreme weather warnings for 7 days in a row. The Canadians were cold.
For skiing, I went with my usual full length thermals, then the BlazeWear baselayer (on the premise that I would rather wash thermals frequently and the rather more costly BlazeWear top occasionally). Then a light fleece and ski jacket.
Switched off, I could just about manage to stay cool enough inside and just warm enough standing outside. Once moving, skiing or chair lift, it became clear that active heading would be needed. With medium setting things became very comfortable and this lasted all day, though I turned hearing of during frequent retreats into the cafes to regain sensation in fingers and toes. Body - nice and warm; hands and feet - painfully cold within 10 mins.
It performed equally well during a day of walking the trails at Gatineau.
I continue to wear it whenever going outside in Ottawa. Walking back from downtown bars is no longer a concern.
Once back in the UK I expect I will wear it frequently. I feel the cold, yet like to do outside things, including boating and walking, cycling and even the occasional winter park run.
Overall I am very pleased. I would recommend this to anyone with similar needs. I like that I don't have to overdress for warmth all the time. It's smart enough to wear as a top in its own right.
Next, I need to try out the glove liners, as my fingers would like to feel the same as my core, rather than being frozen...
